Martina Fasano

(UK)

As a new artist, I am excited to grow within an international and intellectually engaged community. My practice involves themes of introspection, perception, materiality to have an impact on the world. I hope to develop my work through more collaborations with AMA and create more dialogue about my art.

Artist Statement

Through the destruction and reconstruction of mirror fragments, I create art that draws viewers in and invites them to see themselves as part of the art. In this state of reflection, they are encouraged to enter into a dialogue with their inner worlds and reconsider their self-perception, while seeing themselves as part of a greater, interconnected whole. My process begins with a canvas, painted with a solid textured background to establish depth and contrast. Broken mirrors that are either intentionally shattered or salvaged from discarded pieces are then transformed and arranged on the canvas to create into intricate, symbolic interconnected patterns. This act of reassembly embodies resilience and reveals the beauty found within brokenness and imperfection.
